It's happening.
We're bought our airfare!
We will be in New Zealand with our awesome friends Luke + Jamie from January 29 - February 19! That's three full weeks to explore.
Usually, I do not plan trips very carefully.
But as we have a one-income household and so do our friends and NZ is quite expensive, we're having to be more careful.
I am welcoming any and all advice: places to stay, places to see, car rental companies, road trip routes, really good restaurants, how much I can expect to spend for 2 people weekly, etc.
I want it all!
So far our only plan is this: ROAD TRIP.
You can see it's not a very well developed plan.
That's where you come in. I don't care if you've been or if you've just seen something on TV or in a book, I wanna know about it!
Also, we have a 24 hour layover in Seoul, South Korea so I welcome all tips for how to make the most of the city in one day. What are the not-to-be-missed attractions??
How exciting! I went to the north island when I was 13 and looooved it. Very expensive, though! Which island are you planning to go to? Or both?
ReplyDeleteI think both. Our plan is to rent a four-person car for the whole time so we can have the freedom to go wherever whenever. It's the $$ that worries me, though, for things like hotels + gas. I have no idea what to expect cost wise.
DeleteYou will have so much fun! I went to Auckland for a conference a few years ago and loved it. I really liked visiting Waiheke Island off of Auckland.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited! NZ has been on the very top of my travel list for so long but it just felt too far away and too expensive. Now, we're saying screw that and just going for it. I figure, why not? I checked out the Waiheke Island. It looks fabulous! Thanks for the recommendation!
DeleteYou will love NZ - so much to do and see! If you want to explore islands in Hauraki Gulf, like Waiheke, you might also be interested in Rangitoto Island. It is a volcanic island (last erupted around 600 years ago) with some amazing views from up top. Easy to get to by ferry and you can also spend time on the neighboring island, Motutapu, while you're there. The Tongariro Crossing is also amazing. I've lived in NZ for five years and love it. DeleteAh so jealous, NZ is the best! Hire a car with Juicy rentals (awesome for the name alone) make sure you drive around both the north and south island - so beautiful. Go to the Franz Joseph glacier and do ice climbing, stop in Queenstown and go to Ferg Burger and take some epic walks. On the north island, do a skydive at Taupo over the amazing scenery and make sure you do the Tongariro crossing - best walk ever up the volcano from lord of the rings! You will have the best time. DeleteSo jealous! I met so many cool Kiwis in my travels and they've all convinced me that I need to go visit. Seems like an outdoor lovers dream. Plus, I adored the LoTR movies so I'd probably completely geek out at hobbiton and do all the tours.
